A lesson from I learned from this week's happy list:
It's easy to start feeling a little sorry for yourself... but look around you and pay a little attention to the sweet things that surround you. Chances are you'll start feeling better soon.

A Happy List...

1. My bike, she just makes me smile.
 2. The HBO show "Girls". It's so deliciously awkward, has such good writing, and is just so damn good. (Have I mentioned that I thoroughly enjoy awkward television? Cuz I do heh)
3. Taking new passport photos.. just another step closer to taking that much anticipated big trip.
4. Going to Sea World twice in one weekend. I'm starting to love that place, and in case anyone is wondering.. The new ride at Sea World, Manta, is really fun. (and yes we did rode it 3 times in a row)
Watching the fireworks from Shamu Stadium. See one of the whales in the left corner?
5. The return of So You Think You Can Dance.. no joke it's one of my favorites. I even went to the So You Think You Can Dance concert last year and it was wonderfullll.
6. Realizing that the end of the school (work) year is in sight, even if I have to work until the end of July.
7. Spending long days at the pool with my man. (Fun fact: Did you know that the Mission Bay Hilton allows locals to hang out at their *beautiful* pool? Well they do... just buy a drink and some food and they'll love you.. and try not to be obnoxious or drink a little too much because then they will not love you =P)
Cough, clearly I am still working on that tan =P
8. Early mornings. I know, I know I'm that person that seriously annoys all you non-morning people, but I really love mornings. Sitting on the couch, sipping coffee, and just enjoying the quiet makes me so happy.
9. Seeing my parentals three weekends in a row, letting them take me out for a enjoying a nice meal with them =P, and seeing them so happy about their kitchen renovation. They've waited a long time for a new kitchen and I'm really happy for them.
10. Summer summer summer timeee (thank you Will Smith for an excellent song I like to sing throughout the entire summer)

Happy Thursday Friends =)

Punky and the City

I have a sweet treat for you today.
Meet Jen, or as she's known around the internets.. Punky.
She's awesome, inspiring, and well living her dreams.
If you ask me, there's nothing better than making your dreams a reality.

Hi peoples :) I'm Punky (otherwise formally called Jen). I have one of these blogs now too and I don't know, maybe you'd like to check it out? Punky and the City, I call it!

It's a funny story, really. Or maybe not. I don't know. BUT, I started blogging as a means to get over a break up. Yup, back in December, after only the 28374th heartbreak in a row, I said that's it. I'm doing ME and ME alone for awhile, and with it, I decided to give blogging a try. Not only to get my feelings out and find something to fill my time with, but to rehash any writing abilities I may have that could potentially serve me professionally in the future.

In addition to jumping head first into this whole blogging movement, I begin scheming for my next move. Truth be told, as a recent college graduate, I was living the dream already. I had a gorgeous beachside living situation in Dana Point, plus a full-time job in Laguna Beach where I was getting promoted fast. Not to mention all the wonderful friends I had made in the three and half years I lived in Orange County. And lastly, a dude, who I still, at times wonder about. I wonder if I had stayed, if things between him and I would have been different. You know, if things would have "worked out."

But I didn't stay. I left. I left even though, technically everything was going quite well for me. I mean yeah, OK. There were some financial stresses (THE OC is no cheap place to live!), LOTS of working plus previously mentioned "dude" problems, but for the most part, I was happy and comfortable. So why did I leave? Because somehow I managed to embrace the feeling that there were bigger and better things waiting for me elsewhere. Elsewhere being New York City.

Yup. It's a city I've been dreaming about living in ever since I was a little girl. And when I say dream, I mean dream. And I think I'm not alone in saying that we all share places and things in which we dream about experiencing in our lifetimes. And we all think,

"if only"
"how nice that would be"

But then it never happens, does it? We come up with a zillion excuses as to why it's

"just a dream"

..... and why is that, people?! Who is to say we can't make our dreams a reality? Who is to say I can't just drop everything in my life and switch lanes completely, in honor of what I wanna do in my life? Pretty sure no one, right. At least not for me, not now. So that's what I did. I dropped everything in Orange County, moved back North with my parents and now as I type to you here in the marvelous blogosphere, I am simultaneously preparing to move to NYC this summer. Not for a job or for school, just simply because I can. And I want to. Because this is my life, and I want to seriously hug the crap out of every adventure that comes knocking on my soul.

Has this decision been rough? Totally. After all, I am leaving my whole world behind. My family, all of my California friends. And in the process of preparing for my move, I've had to return home with my parents for the first time in five years and just marinate in this awkward period of transition where all kinds of self-doubt and second-guessing has been poking away at me. I've had severe moments of fear and reconsideration. Moments where I think too much about, "not making it in the city", "being a prodigal daughter of sorts after only six months (if even that)", "getting mugged in an alley way". (just for starters)

And then I am saved by my own faith. I am saved by the support of others. And I am saved by the fact that life is all about taking risks and taking chances. No matter what happens, life goes on. Better to have at least checked a few things off our bucket lists and developed a collection of stories along the way..am I right or am I right??!

I'm about to live my dream, boys and girls. And you're invited to the show. I hope you'll attend. I have some nice seats saved for you !

Also, I encourage all of you to think about what it is you really wanna do.. places you want to go? Can you make it happen? I know Tammy in her last post, talked about going to Europe. I have all the faith in the world that she can make it happen! How rad if six months or a year from now she was blogging to us from Italy? Or Ireland? It's not as far-fetched as it may seem. Not at all. And so I ask, where do YOU want to go?

Last, but certainly not least, I have to give a HUGE thanks to Tammy. This girl has been SUCH a huge supporter and good bloggy friend to me since I got started in all of this in January. I think we can all agree she's pretty awesome (hence our mutual gathering in this space), so yes. Thank you, Tammy!

And thank you Jen!
You truly made my blog a better place
Now make sure you head over to Punky and the City to show Jen some love. You won't regret it =)

Coronado Love

Nadav and I had such a nice (and very busy) long weekend complete with some sweet time spent at the beach, two trips to Sea World, two trips to Orange County to visit family and friends, and a nice long bike ride.
That is, a bike ride that took us all around Coronado Island.
Coronado Island is one of my favorite places in San Diego for many reasons, but I really love that the island is so bike rider friendly. There are bike lanes everywhere and there's even a bike path that leads all around the island.
(Fun fact: Coronado Beach was just rated best beach in the US)
It's pretty wonderful....

The view while crossing the bridge to Coronado Island

Heading out

Downtown skyline and the prettiness that is my bike. She makes me so happy.
and yes it is completely acceptable to wear workout clothes all weekend day in San Diego... and I like it that way.

Aren't the views from Coronado Island incredible?

Summer lovin.

We stumbled upon this sand street art display. Awesome right?
It's really starting to feel like summer in San Diego, and I'm feeling oh so good about it.
How did you spend Memorial Day and the long weekend?

Mr. Frostie's

Allow me to introduce you to one of my favorite yummy places in San Diego.
Mr. Frostie's in Pacific Beach
Mr. Frostie’s has the most wonderfulest soft serve ice cream and desserts. I love a place that keeps things simple, but manages to just get things right.
Mr. Frostie’s has a few ice cream flavors, but I always get vanilla and chocolate.

So ya pick your flavor, pick your cone, and then pick your topping. I personally think that rainbow sprinkles make everything taste better, so I always go for some multicolored goodness in my life. Nadav, on the other hand, usually opts for a chocolate or butterscotch dipped cone.
Mr. Frostie’s has been a staple in Pacific Beach since 1955, and if you ask me.. this place just doesn’t get old. I really don’t think Mr. Frostie’s prices have gone up to much since the 1950s either. A small dipped coned costs $1.50. Nice right?
That last picture in the collage? That's what happens when I tell Nadav to "zoom into the ice cream cone" and he ignores me hehe
Mr. Frostie’s is one of my favorite places to get some deliciousness in San Diego.
Check it out next time you’re trying to sober up hang out in Pacific Beach ;)
(Because come on now, that’s what most people are trying to do when they’re “hanging out” in PB)

And hey.. take a moment to remember the real meaning behind Memorial Day, it's an important one.

You Can Do It

Have you heard about Richelle Zampella?
She's 11 years old, in the 5th grade, and a bit of a spelling genius. She has worked so hard and is so skilled that next week she's heading to Washington D.C. for the National Spelling Bee. There's just one more thing..
Richelle is blind and has been reading and typing Braille since she was 5 years old.

Did you ever think there was something you couldn't achieve?
Some goal you just couldn't reach?
Well find that motivation and keep at it because like Richelle, you can make your dreams a reality.
It might not be easy, but it's possible.

(And a little something you didn't know... While I was in college I worked with a little boy who is blind. While working with him I taught myself how to read and type Braille so I could help him with his classroom assignments. It was an awesome experience)

And now check out some fabulous ladies and the little things that inspired and make them smile each day

Martie of Spunkyrella
It just happens to be Martie's 30th BIRTHDAY TODAY!! She lives in Vienna, has great style, and I really enjoy her fitness posts. Check out her blog and wish her a very happy birthday
1. clean sheets
2. the smell of fresh chocolate cake
3. a simple smile

Robyn is another of those incredibly inspiring lady bloggers. She is living her out her dreams in Africa, and writes beautiful posts about her adventures.
1. Weekend morning runs (followed by coffee and croissants to undo all the good!)
2. Packing for holidays (knowing I am going to have a new adventure or spend time with people I love)
3. Emails, letters and phone calls from friends and family around the world

Liz of Try On Life
Liz grew up on a boat, met and married her love, and now lives on a farm. She takes the most beautiful photos and has this way of inspiring me to get off my couch and enjoy being outdoors.
1. My husband & dogs. Always no matter what.
2. Water. My beverage of choice & I still at 25 wish I was a mermaid.
3. A clean house, who doesn't love a clean house?

Happy Weekend My Friends =)

Bike-in. Eclipse-in. Beach-in.

I know what you're thinking...
Another beachy bike themed blog post?
But this isn't the usual beachybike post,
instead it's a "I went to the beach, rode a bike, and took photos of the solar eclipse" post.

Apparently we won't be able to see another solar eclipse this clearly for the next 15 years. Pretty cool eh? Who knows where our lives will take us in the next 15 years....

Did you hear? Our bikes are in love =P

Touristy rentals around the bay

Ahh ok I can't help it... San Diego, I heart you so

Wishing you a sweet, sweet day

Sunday was just one of those lazy, turned wonderful days. I had planned to wake up early and work out, but I was all kinds of tired and sunburned after spending Saturday at the air show. Instead, I decided to give myself a little break and it was marvelous. I slept in (ok so sleeping in to me means sleeping until 8:30am hehe), caught up on all things trashygood on Bravo, and spent the rest of the morning cleaning with Nadav. Yes cleaning, and you know what? It felt good. These days I feel like we're always doing fun and exciting things on the weekend, and that leaves us little time to just be together and take care of our little beach bungalow. I loved it, and yes I am aware that my newfound appreciation for cleaning is a sign that I am getting old(er).
Either way around 2pm, our desire for a little Funday in our Sunday got the best of us, and we decided to take our little love fest outdoors. We ventured to Liberty Station for a little exploring (aka I wanted to take some pictures hehe) and some lunch.

I'm a tidbit afraid of heights, which means I am completely in awe of people who get in a plane and do all kinds of crazy tricks. It's just madness to me... well madness that I really enjoy watching, when it's in the form of an air show ;)
Nadav's brother is a pilot in the air force (fancy right?), and last weekend we checked out the airshow at his reserve base. It was quite the lovely (and hot) day. We played with Nadav's nephew the entire day, spent time with family, took in the show, checked out some planes, and got sunburned (what's new? =P).
Does any one else get emotional when patriotic songs are played at air shows? Maybe that's just me =P

Inside the carrier

Basically the best face ever.

Oh you know.. just hanging out (under a plane)

Yes we're aware, he looks like he could be our kid.. but he's not haha

Nadav's sister-in-law and I. We kinda like each other =P

So thankful for my freedom.

Wishing you a happy and meaningful week

I Need A Vacation.

Lately all I've been thinking about is how much I want to get away for a little vacation to explore a new place. Lets just say I have a serious case of wanderlust.
(Yes, I know I live by the beach in San Diego... and I shouldn't be feeling too bad for myself =P)
But I can't seem to shake it... summer is almost here, and I have a serious urge to get away. I had planned to attend Blogher in NYC this summer, but due to circumstances that are not in my control I am no longer able to attend Blogher. I am really bummed about this, and wanted to say thank you to those of you who have supported me in my attempt to attend the conference.
Today I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself, set some goals, and make my dream trip to Europe a reality... even if it's not going to happen this summer. Nadav and I are going to sit down this weekend, find out exactly how many frequent flyer miles we have, where we want to go, for how long, and figure out exactly how to make that trip a reality.

And in the meantime... I'm going to reminisce over pictures we've taken during past trips. Sighhh

Checking out the elephant seals on the way up to NorCal

Another Oahu photo

Do you have any advice regarding European travel? Where to stay? Where to go? Where to EAT (that's a big one for me hehe)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend
and don't forget to enter the Lucid New York pretzel necklace giveaway =)

When I first started this blog I used to post a happy list each week..
I really enjoyed putting together those lists and somewhere along the line keeping up with those lists became kinda difficult. I guess life got in the way, eh?
These days I'm working finding that balance, and making an effort to blog about what I really want to blog about.. which apparently is a happy list.
And not just a happy list, it's a happy and thankful list.
Because I've been thinking, life isn't just about being happy, it's about being thankful and recognizing the small things in life that make you happy.

So this week, I bring you...
A Happy And Very Thankful List
because really, I have a lot to be thankful for. ;)

1. Making the time to reflect and be thankful. Sometimes I get so lost in the busyness of life that I forget to just sit and be present.
2. Watching this kid (aka Nadav's nephew) fall asleep in my arms.
3. A hug and a thank you from the parents of one of the kids' I work with. It means a lot to know that they appreciate the work I do.
4. Seeing this view each day... I'm so so grateful
5. That moment when you get in the car, turn on the radio, and your favorite song comes on.
6.The warmer weather and the summer months that are fast approaching.
7. Romantical evening bike rides with my man.
8. A hot chocolate kinda brunch instead of a mimosa kinda brunch. =P
9. Surviving my shopping freeze, and the sense of accomplishment that develops from saving money and learning to budget.
10. This blog. The friends I have made, the opportunities that have arisen, and the lessons it has taught me. Thanks little ol' blog.. and thanks to all of you who read and comment. Your time and words mean more to me than you know.

Hope you have a happy and thankful kind of day...
and make sure you enter the Lucid New York pretzel necklace giveaway =)
