Things That Happened On The Saturday Before Halloween

Cara-Mia and her husband were fun and cute. Not that they dressed up as fun and cute, but they just are fun and cute. You know what I mean. ;)

I tried to avoid getting Nadav's zombie make up on me. Please note the awkward "don't touch me" pose 

Nadav was creepy.

I also tried really hard to avoid getting sake bombing remnants on my dress. Have I mentioned that I am constantly spilling things/getting dirty and messing up my clothing. It's a problem. Anyway, Nadav was.... creepy

And in other Saturday night before Halloween happenings and updates...

- Cara-Mia and I both dressed up as Hollie Golightly, but from different parts of Breakfast At Tiffany's.  For the record, I'm not a huge fan of the movie Breakfast At Tiffanys. I am however a huge fan of putting together cheap costumes at the last minute. Hollie Golightly is eassssy, in more ways than one.
- Nadav was a Google Zombie.
- It is now clear to all of you that I have zero skill hair styling skills, and can't even put my hair in a normal looking bun. Beehive is more like it, cough.
- Sake bombing makes me happy.
- Sushi also makes me happy
- Nadav had way too much fun scaring the crap out of drunk almost-naked girls in Downtown and I didn't try to stop him.
- Truth: People thought Nadav's Google Zombie costume was hysterical. He kept getting pointed out, ooohhed and aahhed over, and approached to take photos. Cara-Mia and I thought that this was hilarious, and it only egged on Nadav. Before we knew it, he was walking up to people from behind and whispering "brainssss" in their ears.
- We had a ridiculously good time on Halloween.

The Mission

Just thought I'd lure you in the with pictures of ridiculously delicious food. Don't hate. ;)

So I brunched again.
Ok to be honest I brunched twice last weekend, and it was more money than I probably should have spent fabulous.

Sunday morning I met two of my favorite ladies at The Mission in Downtown for a yummy brunch. The Mission is one of my very favorite restaurants in San Diego, and I definitely recommend checking out one of their 3 locations if you're looking for a great brunch spot. They offer lots of health(ier) options along with the usual sweet and delicious brunch foods. So so much goodness.

I Will...

Photo from last Halloween. Yes, I dressed up as 1950s housewife. Yes, I looked in my closet about an hour before we went out and threw this together. Yes, I was most definitely inspired by Mad Men. ;)

This weekend I will:
- Finally put together a Halloween costume. [Hello, my name is Tammy and I always wait until the last minute]
- Go on a bike ride with my man
- Kick some serious butt at boot camp
- Enjoy the sunshine
- Connect with some awesome bloggers.
- Brunch, because we all know there are few things more enjoyable on a Sunday morning
- Catch up on blogs
- Go to yoga
- Keep reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. I decided to give up on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and picked up Bossypants instead. So far, I am thoroughly entertained. Tina Fey, thanks for making me giggle. ;)
- Wake up Sunday morning, and try to not dread Monday's arrival. =P Sometimes that happens, you know?

On Being Alone

Truth is I really don't spend that much time alone, and usually I like it that way. By nature, I'm a pretty social person. I'm that girl who says hello to people while I'm on a walk and I am constantly embarrassing Nadav starting conversations with people in the grocery store.

Lately though, I've started to realize how important it is for me to take time for myself. I love waking up in the morning, making myself coffee and enjoying the quiet. There are also few things that make me happier than sitting on the beach and enjoying the sound of the waves. Unfortunately, I have a  pretty difficult time maintaining the quiet, and am constantly succumbing to the huge temptation that is my phone to call someone or go online.

I've decided to work on this constant need to always feel connected, and a few weeks ago I started taking phone-less walks at the beach. Eventually those walks turned into yogs (cough Anchorman anyone cough?) jogs, and this week those jogs turned into runs. On today's run, something very unexpected happened around mile 2 when the following thought ran through my mind:

"I love running". 

I love running. Three words that I was fairly confident would never come out of my mouth. I have always complained about how much running sucks, how it hurts my body, and how it's just boring. But today something clicked, and I realized that I value the opportunity for quiet and reflection that running provides. I loved that there wasn't music playing in my ear, a yoga instructor or boot camp instructor telling me what to do and how to move, and really that I was all by my lonesome.

I just might stick to this running thing. ;)

And in other news, I think I'm growing up..... eek.

Thankful for Nadav. I don't tell him enough, but he really makes my world go 'round.

Reading: Well I'm really trying to get into The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, buttt I'm struggling. I'm going to stick with it for a few more days and then move on to another novel. ;) Anyone else feel the same way about this book? I almost feel guilty not liking it because everyone I've spoken to loved it.

Watching: Breaking Amish. I've always been fascinated by the Amish and this show brings all the drama to the yard. I love learning about their culture and beliefs.

Thinking About: My parents and how much I miss them. I know they're only about an hour away, but I really wish I spent more time with them. I am going to be better about visiting more often. (Did you catch that mom? =P)
Also, thinking about Halloween and how I still haven't decided on a costume. Typical and basically happens each Halloween. Every year I go through my closet at the last minute and put together something cute. Now, what to dress up as this year? Decisions, decisions. What are you going to be for Halloween?

Making Me Happy: Sigh, the dolphins at Sea World. No really, I'm obsessed. I get it, it's not exactly normal for a 20-something female to hang out at Dolphin Point by herself on a Sunday for 5 hours. I spent a few hours at Sea World on Sunday afternoon and I definitely bonded with the new baby dolphin at Sea World, Connie. We spent some time playing together on Sunday and it basically made my life weekend.

Baking: The yumminess above. I also may have eaten a gross amount of raw cookie dough before I decided to bake the cookies, oops. But really, what if I had burned the cookies? Disastrous, and the cookie dough would have totally gone to waste. It's clearly a very good thing I ate so much of it. #IReallyHopeIDon'tGetSalmonella

Loving: All of you. :) Seriously, your comments and emails make my world a better place. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read my blog and connect with me.

Looking Forward To: Growing, changing, learning and becoming the person I want and was meant to be. Does anyone else get really reflective in the fall? Maybe it's the start of the new school year... or all those yoga classes I've taken lately? Either way, I'm feeling very reflective these days =P

Art And Fashion Collide

I am not be a style blogger, but I thoroughly enjoy giggling like a teenage girl during a mens fashion show fashion, art, and spending time with some sweet bloggers.

Thursday night I attended Art & Fashion Collide at The Andaz San Diego Hotel. We had a great time, and I happen to think that The Andaz is a beautiful hotel. Check it out if you're looking for a place to stay in Downtown San Diego.

Pumpkin Spice Cake With Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting

I give you Joelle, with a reallllly yummy recipe.

 

Hi friends! My name is Joelle Duff, and I blog over at Something Charming. I love to share all things I find lovely in life, including weddings (I’m a wedding planner) and other pretty things. Though I don’t share it too often on my own blog, I also love to cook and bake, and Tammy has asked me over today to share one of my favorite fall recipes with you.

Cake (adapted from this recipe)

Ingredients

- 1 15 ounce can of pumpkin puree

- ²/₃ cup vegetable oil

- 1 cup white sugar

-   ²/₃ cup light brown sugar

- 1 teaspoon vanilla

- 3 eggs

- 2 cups all purpose flour

- 2 teaspoons baking powder

- 1 ½ teaspoon salt

- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and ginger)

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a bundt pan.

2. Mix together pumpkin, oil, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating in between each.

3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pumpkin pie spice.

4.  Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, little by little and mixing in between each batch.

5. Pour into the greased bundt pan and bake 40 to 45 minutes or until knife comes out clean.

Frosting

Ingredients

- ¼ cup softened butter

- ¼ cup softened cream cheese

- 2 tablespoons bourbon (I use Bulleit)

- Powdered sugar (about 1 to 1 ½ cups)

Directions

1. Beat softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth.

2. Add bourbon.

3. Gradually add powdered sugar until the consistency of frosting.

4. Pour frosting over cooled cake and enjoy!

This is one of my husband’s favorite fall recipes, and it’s always a hit with friends! There isn’t really anything more “fall” to me than this pumpkin cake, some hot chocolate or coffee, and a cold night.

Reading:  I finished Gone Girl last night and loved it until I got to the end of the book. The end of that novel left me feeling restless and kinda annoyed hehe. Overall, a really good book just don't stay up until 1am on a work night to finish the book because you will want to kick yourself. =P

Watching: The debate, gotta be in the know. And that is basically the most you'll hear about politics on this blog. I think some things and opinions are best left off of my blog, and if you choose to share your opinions on your blog... well I will gladly read your thoughts so please share hehe. ;)

Thinking About: How expensive it is to eat and cook healthy foods. Lately, I've made a huge effort to cook at home, but I'm realizing why so many families opt for fast food and more unhealthy options. Stocking up on fresh veggies, fruits, and non-processed foods is expensive,but worth it to me.
I've also been thinking about how incredibly reliant I am on my car. My car has been in the shop since Saturday, and although I love having a break from driving I am really not a fan of asking others for rides. Wamp wamp

Loving: My crock pot! I have a slight fear of using the oven/stove and I love that it's almost impossible to burn food in the crock pot. (And for the record, yes it is possible to burn and char a crock pot... I've done it and completely ruined a crock pot. #SoreSubject)

Looking Forward To: The start of fall (yes SoCal is kind of lacking in the change of seasons this year) and the holiday season. I'm already throwing around the idea of hosting a Hanukkah party at our house. Yes, sovganyoot (jelly donuts), latkes, and many brights menorahs will be involved. I love getting together with family and friends, celebrating, eating good food, decorating, anddd checking out Christmas lights. This Jewish girl seriously loves herself some Christmas lights. 

Making Me Happy: Long sunset walks at the bay with good friends. Connecting with amazing bloggers. Feeling respected at work, and mostly just appreciating that I don't need to have anything huge to look forward to because I am pretty happy right about now. =)

Before I Die...

On our way to dinner Nadav and I stumbled upon this awesome chalkboard wall on the Alibi Bar in Hillcrest. Passersby can pick up a piece of chalk and fill in their dreams and aspirations.. or ridiculous drunken thoughts (and yes, I had to carefully consider which photos to include on this post because there were some seriously funny inappropriate comments on that wall).

 I love that the wall made me consider my dreams, and made me pinpoint the dream I really wanted to put out into the universe. =P 

Before I Die I Want To...
- Inspire
- Swim with dolphins (Cancun!!)
- Get married and have kids (and grandkids)
- Bring happiness to those around me
- Write and publish a book (Yes I just admitted that to myself and to you! =P)
- Show my family and Nadav how much I love them each day
- Travel most of the world
- Go to Disney World
- Find the beauty and creativity in every day
- Run a half marathon
- Taste the rainbow (just kidding)
- Pass on my love, passion, and values to my future children
- Hold onto and grow the love, passions, and values that my parents passed on to me
