What Now?

You know how sometimes you plan and plan,
expect things to turn out one way,
and then something ridiculous happens,
you're like "WTF Mate?!,
all those plans you made completely go out the window,
and you're upset.

Eventually you realize you need to do something about this madness, and fast.

Well welcome to my our wedding planning experience. ;)
All details aside we're doing the opposite of what we had intended and I need help.
Our wedding is going to be small, somewhere in SoCal (San Diego, OC, Los Angeles, and I'm even open to Santa Barbara and the Central Coast), and we're working with a small budget.

Do you have any recommendations for affordable venues and vendors?
I need help.
A lot of help.
(A bottle of wine would be nice too)

Pretty pretty please,
and thank you.

As far as venues, we're pretty open. However, I'm always partial to the beach or something pretty outdoors :)

Hey Tammy! I'm from the central coast and there are a lot of great places there! Ironically I got married in San Diego ;-) but a lot of my friends have been married in San Luis Obispo. Are you wanting an outdoor wedding or inside? Let me know!

I got married last October in Orange County. We had a small budget too. Try My Fair Lady flowers in Newport Beach. She works out of her home. If you pay in cash you can get a great deal! Also we had Sprinkles cupcakes instead of a traditional cake. Everyone loved it! We made our own photo booth out of an old frame and some rope. Way more fun because everyone could see your poses. If you are willing to DIY decorations can be done on the cheap. Good luck! Wedding planning is the worst but it's all worth it. No matter what, at the end of the day you will be married! :)

I agree with a fellow commenter. SLO is a great place to get married. You could even stay at the famous Madonna Inn!

If you are open to Los Angeles, the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock is gorgeous and very affordable, but can only accommodate up to 110 people.

Find a mansion to rent via airBNB or VRBO. Have the wedding in the hills of Santa Barbara, overlooking the ocean and you can do the party right there in your sweet, mansion pad. :)

Whatever you do, it will be great. I loved our small wedding.

I'm so sorry things aren't going the way you wanted them to. That's such a bummer. If you are partial to the beach, Crystal Cove State Beach is beautiful, and would be an amazing place for a wedding. I'd be happy to help you with other location suggestions if you want. you can email me katie@charmingcitystyle.com

hey girl ... so with my husband and I being in the wedding business the one thing I could suggest to really help cut costs is to try having the wedding on a friday or a sunday (especially if you can find a long weekend to do it on) ... you usually can get a way better deal by not doing it on saturday!! worth a try!

i am so sorry that things aren't turning out how you wanted! especially since i know where you wanted to have the wedding.
my friend was married at villa de flores in rancho santa fe. it was really pretty and fairly inexpensive if i remember correct.
if you need help with anything let me know!

I would totally suggest doing something really simple, possibly at the beach, minimal decorations (think things you can make beforehand that will be lasting you can bring and set up) a ceremony there, and possibly going to a nice restaurant private room or something with your guests after. AVOID SATURDAY! everyone charges you more, your guests wont care what day it is.

Best suggestion, don't read those dumb magazines, don't think you need to have ring bearers and first dances and 10 bridesmaids.. think of the things that are important to YOU and stick to it!

DIY the crap out of things - it'll be a pain in the @$$ but well worth it and beautiful in the end. Our wedding was at an apple orchard and we did all of our own decorations.

Trust me when I say the day will go by in a blur and it will be beautiful no matter what!

Hi Tamms -
Kevin's brother got married on the central coast, at a place called the Dana Powers Barn. It's slightly more inland so theres no view of the ocean (and I have no idea of the cost), but it was a gorgeous barn with a beautiful orchard outside of it. Really pretty set-up for a wedding and definitely seemed like your style to me. Just thought I would let you know in case you wanted to look into it.

Good luck - and remember, no matter where/how you have your wedding it will be beautiful and perfect!

Love you

I feel for you. My husband and I got married last year (we're from San Diego too), it was such a process and it doesn't necessarily play out as you always dreamed but I'll tell you this. Be patient with your search. Once you find a location, everything else will start falling into place. And it will be stressful and hard work and you'll just want it to be over and then the big day comes and you realize that all the hard work and planning was worth it! Let me know if you need any pointers from someone local who just went through it. We literally looked at venues all throughout SD, OC, Palm Springs and Temecula. We ended up in Palm Springs, but there are so many great locations in our area, don't give up!

A girl I know from Relay got married at Keys Creek Lavender Farm right outside of SD. I only saw pictures, but it looked GORGEOUS.

I went to a wedding in La Jolla this summer! It was at the Scripps Auditorium at UCSD and was absolutely STUNNING. I think it might be an offbeat wedding venue since it's a lecture hall, but it opened up to the most unbelievable views of the ocean and was the perfect spot for a ceremony and reception!

i know several couples who have gotten married at the santa barbara courthouse - it is STUNNING, outdoors, close to the beach, and very inexpensive. google it or email me if you want more details!

its gonna be gorgeous no matter what! xoxo

My husband and I got married at the San Diego Botanic Garden (formerly Quail Botanical Gardens) in Encinitas. Highly recommend!

I would look at the Thursday Club in Ocean Beach, a friend got married there this past summer and it had the most amazing views of the ocean at sunset!! She had it on a Friday and it was much cheaper. Also you can get married at the Glider Port, the bluffs overlooking Blacks beach. Went to another wedding there and it was breathtaking!! Plus I don't think they charge at all for the use of the space, just have to pay for rental of chairs and decorations etc...

Oh no!! I will send some suggestions via email. If you guys do a Friday or Sunday wedding, it really helps! :)

I'm not super familiar with socal but I am familiar with a small wedding budget! We ended up going with an inn/restuarant that also had room for a small dance floor. We don't have to pay for the cost of the venue or cake cutting fee or linens or any of that nonsense. I'm sure there are places like out where you are! As soon as I started researching resturants, there was a whole new world of possibilities :-)
