So uhh...Florida?

source
A couple of nights ago Nadav and I found out that we are probably going to South Florida next week? Ya I hear you... "you're probably going to Florida??"

Well, Nadav's brother is a pilot and has some standby tickets that expire on December 31. He generously gave us the tickets and reserved seats for us on a flight that leaves the day after Christmas. However we won't know if we'll be able to get on any flights that day until we arrive at the airport, this means that we can't really book any hotel rooms until we're actually in Florida. Sure, I like to be spontaneous when I travel, but I'm really not the type to get somewhere and not know where I'll spend the night. This will most definitely be interesting, hopefully in a wonderful way that won't leave us spending the night in our rental car. ;)

Travel anxiety aside, we would love some suggestions from all you well traveled people, or people that live in South Florida. What should we do? Where should we go? Where should we eat? You know, help a blogger out =P

We will hopefully fly into Fort Lauderdale, are planning on exploring South Florida, and really don't have any plans after that. If we make it there we will have a rental car and will be in Florida for about a week.

Ahhh there's nothing I love more than exploring a new place.
Can't wait to hear from all of you :)

So fun! We fly buddy passes a lot... it can super stressful, but if you make the flight it's all worth it!

I lived in Miami for 6 months while my husband did a rotation, it was so much fun! Such a crazy city. One thing that I try and tell everyone to do, and since you have a rental car you can easier do this, is drive to the Everglades and see the gators! We did a boat ride, but that wasn't as cool as a bike ride. There is a place called Shark Valley. It's less than a hour from Miami. You rent bikes for cheap there, and it is a 15 mile loop. Alligators are on the side of the trail, in swamps, baby alligators, giant ones, it's crazy. They are just lounging around while you are riding bikes. We took a lunch and ate half way on the trail at the observation tower. The beaches and food in South Florida are amazing, but getting to ride bikes with alligators is pretty coo, we counted the gators, 101. I did a blog post on it when I still blogged :) http://heidiofthefuture.blogspot.com/2013/01/bikes-and-gators.html

Whatever you do, you will have fun! The weather will be beautiful and you can't go wrong with any of the beaches! And drink and eat as much Cuban food as you can!

I am born and raised in South Florida!! And while most people will be recommending trendy South Beach restaurants an spots- I'm gonna suggest you make the trek out to homestead and check out Knaus Berry Farm. It's this family owned place that's only open seasonally but every South Floridian will tell you they have THE BEST cinnamon rolls and Strawberry milkshakes!!! Check them out :)

The Cuban food in Miami is amazing! Definitely go to Little Havana. I cannot remember the name of the restaurant I visited to save my life but I'm pretty sure many of the restaurants there are good!

Yay! I'm in South Florida, but closer to Palm Beach County than Miami. If you head up that way, downtown Delray Beach is a MUST! You would LOVE Dada in Delray Beach. It's the cutest little hip lounge (we love to go for cappucino and open mic night!) and is a must visit!

This is the perfect time to visit South Florida in my opinion - slightly less humidity than other months :) If you venture over to South Beach, the Clevelander was our favorite spot! They have delicious pina coladas and you get to keep the cups, haha :)

We went to Miami for a night of our honeymoon and LOVED it! We stayed at The Park Central and it was right in the middle of everything and was perfect. Directly across from the water and surrounded by tons of restaurants/bars. Found a cool hookah bar around the street too that was fun. It is a great city!

I lived in Miami until fifth grade and still go back once or twice a year. Both South Beach and Hollywood are great beaches with walking/bike paths and lots of restaurant options. If you like art, the MOCA in North Miami is really good. And Coconut Grove (the area around University of Miami) is beautiful just to walk or drive around, and has some unique restaurants and shops.
