Every once in a while you hear someone's story. It makes you stop and think about life, the choices you've made, and whether or not you truly are living life to the fullest.
A few weeks ago a friend from grad school contacted me, and told me about her friend who is raising money to turn Tyler Teague's story into a documentary. Tyler is an inspiration like no one else. He is the oldest male alive with an extremely rare genetic disorder called Bloom Syndrome.
Oh you've never heard of Bloom Syndrome before? Well, neither had I, until I heard about Tyler. Bloom Syndrome has a number of symptoms but specifically causes sterility, stunted growth, an extremely short life span (most people with Bloom Disease die by age 23), and often leads to a horrible form of leukemia. Tyler is currently the oldest known male who has Bloom Disease in the world, which if you ask me, is pretty incredible in itself.
Bloom Syndrome isn't stopping Tyler though, he skateboards every single day, and has dreams of becoming a pro-skateboarder. Tyler truly is living life to the fullest.
Let's help share Tyler's story! Director and cinematographer Daniel Rego is raising money to turn Tyler's story into a documentary. Check out the Desert Bloom kickstarter page and help him spread the word!
I think Tyler said it best,
"Live for the moment, live day by day, and skate or die" =P
