Where To Play In San Diego
Please note that this list is a work in progress and will be regularly updated
+ Coronado Island. Go on a leisurely bike ride around the island (another post here)
+ La Jolla Cove. Take a walk along the water, watch the seals at La Jolla Cove, and check out some of the great shops on Girard Ave. (another post here, here, and here)
+ Balboa Park. Take in the beautiful buildings, walk along on the hiking trails, check out the museums, visit the Japanese Friendship Garden, watch a concert at the Organ Pavilion, or just take nap on the grass.
+ Sea World. I spend hours at Sea World watching the dolphins play
+ If you're visiting in July/Aug. make sure you check out the Del Mar races
+ Enjoy a bike ride around Mission Bay
+ Visit the San Diego Zoo
+ Be a beach bum for a day at any of these beautiful beaches:
- Wind N' Sea: less touristy, but so so beautiful
- Del Mar: Cute boutiques, beautiful hotels, and classy environment
- La Jolla Cove: great place to go snorkeling
- The Hotel Del Coronado's beach: just rated the best beach in the United States.
- Pacific Beach: more of a "college neighborhood" it's home to a lot of great restaurants, good surfing, and a really fun atmosphere. I blogged about Pacific Beach here, here, here, here, here.
San Diego has lots of fun neighborhoods and some of my favorites are:
+ La Jolla. Beautiful (and more upscale) beach town with a beautiful beach and great restaurants/shops
+ Little Italy. Great art galleries, restaurants, and views of San Diego Bay (blog post here
+ Encinitas. A beachy community that has a bit of a hippy atmosphere. You will find great food, beautiful ocean views, fun shopping, and lots of yoga studios.
+ Hillcrest. Considered the gay neighborhood of San Diego, and one of my very favorite places to hang out. There are so many great restaurants and bars here. It's a safe neighborhood with a lot of culture. :)
+ Downtown (specifically Gas Lamp and East Village). Definitely a place to check out while you are visiting San Diego. It's very "happening", makes for great people watching, and makes for a fun night out.
